Bass Research Project - Noosa River
The Sunshine Coast Sportfishing Club is proud to be able to assist Josh Whiley in his PhD research project. The first trip to Harry’s Hut on the Noosa River was attended by club members Jim Brennan, Brendan Moore, Mike Trust and Carl Jensen.
The fishing was tough but a number of bass were tagged, fin clippings taken and then released.
Josh's project is based around using fin clippings to determine age on various fish species. Using fin clippings means that the fish does not have to be killed and have its Otolith bone removed and inspected per current practice.
A minimum of 100 wild Bass fin clip samples need to be collected from the Upper Noosa River before early December this year and Josh has sought our help in capturing and collecting the samples.
